Albert St. James remembers the tunnels
You asked me a while ago about the tunnels the Germens dug. From what I was told there were actually three started. One was from the chapel, one from the dinning room and the other I don't know. The reason was to throw the guards off in case they got caught. When they did get caught, they were supposed to be close the end of the main one. The story goes that they got caught because the chapel ceiling was turning black and starting to cave in because they would putting all the earth between the floors. That is why there were so many hiding places with loose floor boards when we were there.
My older brother went there the first year it reopened and there were all kinds of things found in the walls and such. One thing I remember him saying was a hand carved type of gun made of wood that could shoot nail with elastics.
Of course I have no hard evidence except what I have heard but I have heard these things from more than one person. It sure would be good to be able to find someone who was a guard there or one of the inmates. I bet we could learn a lot more.
